What is CRS Approval?
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), abbreviated as BIS, is the regulatory body under the Department of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Foods and Public Distribution, governed by the Government of India. BIS grants licenses to products conforming to requirements specified under Indian Standard Specifications.
It ensures the quality conformance of products through specific categories mentioned as Indian Standard (IS Numbers). BIS Certification allows products to use the BIS Standard Mark (CRS Mark) as per specific Indian Standards.
BIS Certification under CRS Procedure is covered under Scheme-II of Schedule-IV of Bureau of Indian Standards.
BIS certification ensures product quality and safety, providing manufacturers with a competitive edge in the market.
CRS Certification Procedure
For Electronic and IT Equipments, BIS grants the license to the products and allows them to use BIS Standard Mark (also known as CRS Mark) over the licensed products as per the specific Indian Standard(s).For the Domestic Manufacturing as well as the Manufacturing outside India, the process is considered under Scheme-II or Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)

Fresh Application(Grant of License)
- Preparation of the documentation as per the requirement of BIS norms.
- Arrangement of the requisite areas as per BIS guidelines
- Submission of the Samples directly by the applicant to the BIS approved laboratory as per the quantity required under the stated Indian Standard.
- Receipt of the Test Report over BIS Portal.
- Submission of the application through Online Portal
- Nomination of Dealing Officer from the CRS BIS Desk
- Scrutiny by Dealing Officer as Desk Evaluation
- Information over the application for queries, if any, over the Communication Window to the applicant
- Resolution of the Query(ies) raised by the applicant over the BIS Portal
- Grant of License on the basis of the Testing done by BIS approved laboratory and the complete Information submitted towards the application.

- Create the Login Credentials at CRS Portal.
- Login to CRS Portal by Username and Password
- Submit the details required over the portal
- Pay the requisite Fee to BIS
- Communication from BIS towards the submitted application for discrepancies/queries, if any.
- Grant of License, on the successful verification of all the details
- Company Establishment Legal Documents (such as Certificate of Incorporation, GST, Udyam Aadhaar, Factory License, Business License, ISO Certificate etc.)
- Authorised Signatory details such as PAN Card, Contact number, Mail ID, Designation etc.
- List of complete manufacturing Machinery
- List of Raw Material with Supplier’s Information and Test Certificates
- Complete Manufacturing Process Flow Description
- Quality Control Personnel Details such as Appointment Letter, Qualification Certificate, ID Proof, Passport Sized Photograph, Experience (in Years) in the applicant’s Firm
- Undertakings and Declarations, if any
- Model Details to be applied for the grant of license
- Affidavit for the Undertakings
Renewal of License
- Submission of the Documents required over BIS Portal
- Pay the Requisite Fee
- Grant of Renewal for the Subsequent Year
- Login to CRS Portal
- Submit the Requisite Documents
- Submit the Fee as per the Production Data
- Grant of Renewal of License for the Subsequent Year
- CA Authenticated Data for the Covered period of Production
- Model details required for the Renewal
- Fee Details
Inclusion of New Variety(ies)
- Submission of Sample in BIS approved Laboratory for the variety sought under the Inclusion
- Receipt of the Test Report from the BIS approved laboratory
- Submission of the Requisite Documents over the Portal
- Pay the Requisite Fee
- Scrutiny by BIS Official over the applied variety
- Grant of Inclusion on the successful verification of the documents
- Login to CRS Portal
- Submit the Requisite Documents
- Upload the Third Party Test Report
- Submit the Fee as per the New Variety
- Grant of the Inclusion of New Variety covered under the Existing Scope of License
- Updated In-House Test Report
- Third-Party Test Report
